Taking Action Book Study: Chapter 2 (Cohort B)

Taking Action Chapter 2 promo graphicChapter 2: CCTM’s Taking Action book study will spend our October session considering the importance of establishing mathematics goals to focus learning. We will explore why this practice is the anchor for the other seven Mathematics Teaching Practices (NCTM’s Principles to Actions, 2014) and how it promotes equity in the mathematics classroom. You’ll leave this month’s session ready to strengthen the mathematics goals you set for daily instruction and with a plan to gather evidence of their effectiveness.

The objectives of the Taking Action book study are:

  • To increase teacher's understanding of the key features of the eight effective mathematics teaching practices
  • To examine how the teaching practices interact as a framework for equitable mathematics instruction
  • To recognize how the teaching practices support deeper learning of mathematics
  • To provide a variety of actives, strategies, and resources to assist teachers in applying the ideas discussed in the book to their own practices.
