SUMMARY:Virtual PD: emPowering Students: Practical Ways to Approach Social Justice
DESCRIPTION:\n\nJoseph Bolz presents emPowering Students: Practical Ways to Approach So
cial Justice.\n\n\nSession Description\n As math teachers, it is easy to ch
oose the side of neutrality, to think that mathematics is without culture a
nd for everyone. However, this stance of neutrality only furthers the divid
es society has created between students of different races, religions, and
socio-economic backgrounds. Join us as we continue the work we started with
Robert Berry in order to develop practical and hands-on ways you can promo
te social justice in your classrooms.\n\n\nAbout the Presenter\n Joseph Bol
z is a math teacher and department leader at George Washington High School
in Denver Public Schools, as well as a CCTM teaching award winner and the C
CTM treasurer. Joe's passion is to make mathematics meaningful using a vari
ety of techniques including games, group tasks, projects, and real-world pr
oblems. Joe knows that math is so much more than number crunching – math is
deciding where to put different plants in your garden, math is building a
swing for your porch, math is finding the best bus route across town, math
is baking and driving and exercising and math is an art.\n\n\nRegister for
