Colorado Department of Education Releases Free Math Intervention Toolkits
The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) unveiled a collection of free math intervention toolkits designed to help students overcome learning challenges in math! These online resources are created by teachers for teachers (and families!). Developed in collaboration with the Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics (CCTM), the toolkits address key areas of need statewide.
Last summer, 18 educators representing 12 districts and 4 colleges across the state, gathered for a multi-day workshop at Copper Mountain. Fueled by communal board games every night and guided by best practices in math instruction, they created 17 intervention toolkits. During the pilot program, the reviews were overwhelmingly positive from both educators and students. One educator praised the resources for its thoughtful design and real-world classroom applicability. They specifically noted that the manipulatives and game-like scenarios increased engagement while building essential skills. What more could you want from a resource?
The toolkits are accessible and user-friendly; including clear lesson plans, hands-on activities, and strategies for addressing common misconceptions. Jason Cushner, Math Specialist at CDE, emphasized the broader impact of these resources: "This is about building confidence, fostering curiosity, and empowering students to see themselves as capable mathematicians. These toolkits are a step toward transforming how we support struggling learners in math."
