April 2025 Message from the Board
A Summer of Growth and Learning – Join Us for More!
This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with fellow math educators in a dynamic and inspiring professional learning experience at the CCTM Summer Institute. One of the highlights was a powerful session led by Kevin Dykema, President of NCTM, who shared engaging ways to make math more meaningful by connecting it to real-life contexts. His insights reminded us that when students see math in the world around them, they not only deepen their understanding but also build confidence and curiosity. His session reignited our passion for designing lessons that are both rigorous and relevant.
As we look to the future, I’m thrilled to invite all educators to the 2025 Summer Institute, where we will continue this journey of growth and transformation. This year, we are excited to welcome Joleigh Honey and Julianne Foxworthy Gonzalez, who will lead a deep dive into supporting all learners including Multilingual Learners (MLLs) and Students with Disabilities (SLD).
Their sessions will focus on practical, research-based strategies that help educators:
-
Support students’ language development alongside mathematical understanding
-
Use routines, visuals, scaffolds, and sentence frames to foster meaningful discourse
-
Honor and integrate students’ cultural and linguistic assets
-
Creating math environments that are inclusive, rigorous, and accessible for all learners
This is an incredible opportunity to earn professional development hours towards CLDE licensure requirements, specifically Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) Education and Behavioral Health or Special Education. In addition, it will expand our toolkit, and continue building classrooms where all students feel seen, supported, and challenged. Whether you're a veteran teacher or just beginning your journey, this professional learning promises to be rich, empowering, and immediately applicable.
Let’s continue growing together as a community of educators who believe in the brilliance of every learner. I hope to see many of you there as we continue building classrooms where all students thrive.
