February 2026 Upcoming Events, Celebrations, Happenings and Opportunities (ECHO)

  • The Colorado Academic Standards for high school mathematics are currently under revision, and the window for providing feedback is rapidly coming to a close.  The draft of the revised standards is available for review and public comment.  Feedback focus groups are being held on February 9, 11, and 12.  The feedback survey closed on Monday, February 16.   • The Colorado Council for Learning Disabilities welcomes people to register for this year's Math on the Planes, to be held on February 27th and 28th in Englewood.  This year's featured presenter is Juliana Tapper and tickets for the event are $190, which includes the event and several meals.  The first 100 teachers to register will receive a copy of Juliana's book, Teaching 6-12 Math Intervention: A Practical Framework to Engage Students Who Struggle.

  • From Data to Discovery: Building Deeper Conceptual Understanding with TI Technology and Real-World Investigations,March 28, 2026, 8:30 am - 11:30 am, Grand Junction, CO (Specific location TBD).  Lunch is included and will be served following the workshop.  Facilitated by Brian Duncliffe @ Texas Instruments, [email protected].

  • The Colorado Math Pathways Taskforce has published guidance about establishing high school math pathways for quantitative reasoning, statistics, and advanced algebra/calculus.  The guidance is designed to support stakeholders with conversations about pathways and to provide information about how pathways connect to various postsecondary careers, credentials, and degrees. 

  • Did you know that Colorado is hosting the NCTM annual conference in Denver, October 28-31 at the Convention Center?  In the meantime, NCTM has virtual book studies. Learn more HERE.

  • There are now opportunities for BOCES, districts, schools, or other local education agencies to register their own cohorts for Powerful Practice: Evidence-Informed Math Teaching, an asynchronous professional development opportunity aimed at enhancing mathematics instruction for educators across the state.  Groups of at least four educators can get free access to this curriculum detailing research-informed best practices in math teaching, complete with support for discussion facilitation.  Contact Joe Brenkert at [email protected] for details.

  • Pikes Peak State College Centennial Campus in Colorado Springs is hosting a free screening of Counted Out on Friday, February 27, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Counted Out is a thought-provoking film that examines the current math crisis and explores how mathematical literacy shapes access to power and opportunities in society.  Educators from across the Pikes Peak region are invited to watch the film and engage in dynamic conversations about math in our community and educational landscape.  For more information, Counted Out Screening at PPSC Event Registration.

  • CU is hosting theirTEDxCU event on April 4th, 2026 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm in Macky Auditorium on CU Boulder's campus!  This year features math teacher Benji Billman, who will be reframing mathematics as a practical application for the everyday person.  Contact [email protected] for questions.

  • Metropolitan State University is hosting Math Day 2026 on Tuesday, April 7th.  At this day-long event high school students are invited to participate in various math competitions and revel in math fun!  Teams compete against each other to answer algebra and geometry questions and create an engineering project.  For additional questions please reach out to Isabel Romero at: [email protected]

  • The Minds on Math Institute is being hosted May 5 and 6 in Thornton.  In this institute participants will learn how to address all eight of the Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice within workshop model instruction. Participants will explore how explicit thinking strategy instruction can promote students’ deep mathematical understanding. Early bird pricing ends April 5.
