September 2025 President's Message

We Are CCTM - by Kim Smith

I am honored to step into the role of President of the Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and I aim to strengthen the fantastic work already underway. I do so with deep appreciation for the leaders who came before me.  Our success today stands on the strength of our collective past, built by incredible educators and leadership.

During my time preparing for this role, I've witnessed the strong spirit of collaboration across our CCTM Board. Our board members support each other, share their expertise and passion, and readily take action– a core part of what makes this organization thrive. I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of this incredible board.

As president of the CCTM board, I am committed to serving math educators in Colorado and beyond. Together, we are a community that values, supports, and celebrates one another. We build bridges across grade levels, districts, and disciplines; and, we ensure that every student in Colorado experiences the joy and power of mathematics.

As we move forward, our CCTM focus will be on ensuring the CCTM community continues to grow: through quarterly newsletters, professional learning that enriches our practice, and recognition of the amazing work happening in Colorado classrooms. These activities are vital to building a stronger collective impact.

It’s an exciting time to be in math education. The CCTM Annual Event will take place on  June 11 and 12, 2026, please hold the date. In addition, next year, Colorado will be the host affiliate of the NCTM conference in October of 2026.

I invite you to lean into this community—share your stories, join in the learning, and celebrate the successes around you. The work is challenging, but it is also joyful, and we are stronger when we do it side by side. Together, WE ARE CCTM!
